Painted in colour on the lower half of a transparency (Mica). The transparency measures 7.75 x 5.75 inches. The subject is a procession of men and animals, led by an elephant bearing a red & green pennant, followed by slaves carrying jugs upon their heads, a body of men in white robes with red, green and purple sashes, and two men in coloured robes on horseback. Some of the men bear swords and shields. A piece is chipped away from the lower left corner, very good condition otherwise. Well executed with bold colours and fine detail. [California, 1928?]. This is a color block print measuring 9.25 x 12.25 inches; the image size is 5.5 x 8 inches. Paper is slightly browned, fine condition. The author's name is lettered at the bottom, within the illustration: "Lawrence Patterson 1928". Patterson (1896 - 1964) lived and worked in California, where he was a book illustrator and print maker. A circular portrait, 2.25 inches in diameter, on a 10 x 7 inch sheet. This is a 19th century photogravure of this portrait. Fine condition. Saint-Memin was a celebrated portraitist who lived in the USA from 1793 - 1814. His subjects included George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The subject of this portrait, Joseph Bloomfield, was the Governor of New Jersey, and the man for whom Bloomfield, NJ is named. It is printed on a wove paper, quite fine, with no watermark. A small engraving on laid paper, measuring 71 x 51 mm. Tape residue on reverse. Trimmed up to, and very slightly within, plate lines. Not the first state. See Pauli 185a referring to it as a ?Originalseitige täuschende Kopie? in which the farmer with the spear has no feather in his hat.
