An embroidered book cover, oblong, for a book measuring 9.5 x 6 inches. Fully opened it measures 19.5 x 6.25 inches. Weight is 74 grams. The front panel is on blue silk, the center embroidered in a floral design using several colours of chenille thread incorporating metal sequins and ornamentation, surrounded by extensive couched work in gold and silver. The edges, including the back panel, are edged in a heavy decorative design using gold thread. The inner face is a tan silk (?) with 1.5 inch flaps to hold the edges of the book or album cover. The gold thread used on the edges tests at about 10K. Some slight splitting of silk at a couple of spots on the front panel, generally in fine condition. An excellent example of a decorative 19th century book or album cover, utilizing real gold thread for the edging.
