Ads at rear dated January 1897, comprising pages 297-304. Shelf wear to lower edge, ownership signature in front, inner hinges cracking somewhat, some foxing to title and a few other leaves; a bright, very good copy in general. A future war novel forecasting the Boer war. Locke: Spectrum of Fantasy: page 97 (describing the second edition). Suvin: Victorian Science Fiction in the UK: page 67.

London: F.V. White, 1899. Second Edition. Green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front cover lettered in black. This is the non-pictorial version of the binding. Frontispiece. Corner torn from blank upper rear end paper, some wear and discoloration to end papers, repairs to inner hinges; a bright and attractive, very good copy otherwise. The frontispiece is not always found in copies of the second edition; it is present here. The first edition was published in 1898. A science-fiction tale of a device which attracts gold like a magnet. Locke: Spectrum of Fantasy: page 97. Reginald 06371. Wolff: 279

London: Pearson, 1895. First edition. Red cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front cover lettered in black. Frontispiece & 15 plates by Piffard. Some wear to base of spine, a few stains to back cover, in general a very bright and attractive very good copy. This is likely the second of three known bindings; the first binding is in pictorial cloth, and there is also a version with the spine lettered in black. Fantastic adventures of a son of Odin, many times reincarnated. Locke, Spectrum of Fantasy I, pg. 98.
