1 Pain (Barry) Playthings and Parodies.
NY: Cassell, (1892). First American edition. Blue pictorial cloth, front cover designed and lettered in pink and red, spine designed in pink and lettered in gilt. Small ownership sticker of collector John Ruyle on inner front cover, a bit of darkening to edges, but a nice bright copy, quite attractive. A collection of comical short parodies and sketches, several with fantastic and supernatural content. The British edition appeared from Cassell in 1892.

NY: Stokes, (1914). First American edition. Red cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt. Very light wear, a nice clean copy, quite bright. A collection of 45 short stories, many fantastic, including 'The Wrong Elixir'. Tymn: Horror Literature: 3-197. The first edition was published in London by Mills & Boon in 1912.

3 Pain (Barry) The Diary of A Baby. Being A Free Record of the Unconscious Thought of Rosalys Ysolde Smith Aged One Year.
London: T. Werner Laurie, [1922]. Yellow pictorial wrappers designed in red and black. Wear to spine, some repair to front hinge, ownership inscriptions on front fly leaf, generally very good otherwise. Originally published by Nash in 1907. One the spine of this 1922 edition, in small type, is: Revised Edition. A short novel in which babies can communicate with each other in the wordless language of the 'Herebefore' without speaking, before they forget it and learn human language. As always with Pain, a lot of fun. A scarce book in any edition. The front cover design is by Mabel Lucy Attwell.
