1 Bradford (Alden) History of Massachusetts, From 1764, to July, 1775: When General Washington Took Command of The American Army.
Boston: Richardson and Lord, 1822. First edition. 414 pp. Full tree calf, leather spine labels lettered in gilt, the covers both detached and the spine partly chipped away. Lacking the front fly leaf and possibly a half-title leaf. The first of three volumes by Bradford, followed by volumes published in 1825 and 1829. This copy is distinguished by having been in the Library of the Department of State, so indicated by a pen inscription on the title page, dated Dec. 15, 1822, also by a library label on the inner front cover, and an ink stamp. At the foot of the spine, the binding is stamped 'State Department'. A small purple rubber stamp over the label indicated that it was a surplus duplicate from the Library of Congress. Howes B-698. A worn copy with an interesting provenance.
