A sequel to Poe's uncompleted "Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym...". Near the South Pole, a race of old Roman extraction, whose members view the visitors as socially contemptible. Reginald 03747. An unusual tale, told by a sentient automobile, of its adventures among humans.

Yellow end papers. An attractive 19th century Vermont library label on inner front cover, owner's signature on the title dated 1855, a bit of wear to the base of the spine, some pages yellowing, but in general a very bright, attractive, nearly fine copy, unusually nice for a book from this period. The British first edition was published in 1832. Klosterheim is a gothic novel which takes place in Swabia during the 30 Years' War. It appeared in abridged form in THE EERIE BOOK (Margaret Armour - ed. 1898) as "The Masque".

Library stamps on front end paper, and pocket on rear end paper, paper browning, about very good otherwise. An uncommon anthology of short fiction which came out under several titles (Famous Stories by De Quincy.... ). This may be only volume 1 of a 2 volume set, but this is nowhere indicated in the book. Despite the claims made by the title page, there is only the frontispiece in the book, no other illustrations. 13 tales in this volume; a story of interest is THE METEMPSYCHOSIS by Robert Macnish, a weird tale first published in BLACKWOODS in 1826 as by: A Pythagorean.
