Blue cloth designed and lettered in gilt, pictorial design in black on gray on front cover. Marbled end papers. 2 volumes in one: 250 + 274pp. Pictorial extra title page illustrating a scientist in his lab, with a hunchbacked assistant in the background. Inner hinges cracked, wear to corners and hinges, a very good copy generally. The first edition was issued in 1869. A popular novel by the celebrated Danish author, which saw many editions. A translation of the title might be: From The Old Factory. It concerns the use of gold in a porcelain factory, and attempts to chemically alter it. The illustration on the binding and title depicts a laboratory scene with a sort of Frankenstein look to it - a scientist studies his test tube while the hunchbacked assistant labors in the background.

The British edition was published by Burleigh, also in 1900.

Small 4to., sewn. vi + 41pp. Contemporary boards & pasted-on calf spine, the boards very worn and stained, split at the spine, the body of text loose in the binding. H. Lemoine contributes a 4-page preface dated July 12, 1790. An uncommon edition. Worldcat cites several copies of this edition, including one with an extra engraved title and 2 plates; this copy is not illustrated, nor is there any sign that it ever was.

This looks to be a novel about Pondlebury's, a large department store.

4to. Burgundy boards, cloth spine, spine lettered in gilt: "Poems". This is a copy of SELECT POEMS which is bound without the title page, preliminary material and preface, and which begins with the divisional leaf bearing the title: 'Lines on the Words "This Beautiful Creation," which ocurred in A LETTER of January 13, 1813.' The contents page has been tipped in following this divisional leaf, and the rest of the book is intact, ending at page 40. Some wear to spine extremities, shelf wear to tips, creases to first two blank leaves, very good otherwise. A handsomely printed book. Sadly, the missing leaves contained all three of the wood engravings.This copy is from the stock of C.A. Stonehill, who have pencilled in this notation: "A copy obviously issued without the title. 1814. Privately printed in a few copies at the Lee Priory Press."

Label on inner front cover, light shelf wear to base of spine, a strong very good copy in a slightly worn dust jacket, which has a short split along the front hinge and a tear partway into the spine, and a bit of wear to the base of the spine. The Author's League statement on the front of the jacket indicates that it was published "For the Benefit of the Authors' League Fund for Needy Authors." Personal stories from 125 authors including Zane Grey, Mary Austin, Channing Pollock, William MacLeod Raine, Arthur Train, Carolyn Wells, Kate Douglas Wiggin, Mary E. Wilkins, Clement Wood, George Barr McCutcheon, Sinclair Lewis, Robert W. Chambers, Rex Beach, and many others. Quite a decent copy.
