NY: Knopf, 1934. First American edition. Black cloth designed and lettered in gilt. Borzoi patterned end papers. Illustrated title page printed in black & red. A little marking to upper page edges, but a fine copy in a slightly worn pictorial dust jacket, some scuffing to edges and folds, and a crease partway along the spine. This book is seen in three different dust jackets; this is the variety made of gold-foil type paper, designed and lettered in black & red, with the pyramid design on the front. Adventure in Bolivia; a boy is educated by a mysterious priest, and sets out to unite the oppressed races in his country. Of marginal lost-race interest; Stuart Teitler saw fit to include a copy in his collection. The British edition appeared in 1933.

Cloth torn at upper spine and inexpertly repaired, some shelf wear to edges and tips, cloth a bit soiled, very good otherwise. An American issue of a London, Jarrold & Sons edition, with an American title page. The first edition was published by Jarrold in 1896, and had no illustrations. There was also a Colonial Edition published by Macmillan in 1896. We believe this to be the first American edition, though we have heard a rumour of an American 1899 edition with New York, Jarrold, title page. It is likely derived from the 1899 Jarrold edition, the 'Fifth Thousand', which was illustrated. A lost-race tale, of a race of classical Greek origin on an island in the South Pacific.
