NY: American Tract Society, [c.1850]. Original decorative wrappers printed in black & brown. Illustrated title page and two other engravings. Some foxing and discoloration, basically very good. Issued as No. 26 in a series, so indicated by a numbered box on the front wrapper. The WorldCat entry associates this book with Emma Sharpington, and with Elias James Whitney, who may have done the engraving. One engraving is also signed: "Childs".

This is post-1935 as all illustrations are black & white.

London: Published by the Proprietor, 14, Dalston Rise, 1837. New Edition. Original limp green cloth, front cover designed and lettered in gilt. Engraved frontispiece. Yellow coated end papers. 36pp. plus two leaves of ads at rear. Ex-lib marks from the Malvern Public Library include some pen marks and oval rubber stamps throughout the book. Front hinge loose, some old stains to frontispiece, light edge wear, small sticker on front cover, generally a very good copy. Frontispiece engraved by Posselwhite, after an original by Sir Joshua Reynolds. First published in 1806, according to an entry in WorldCat; NCBEL, however, says: "under various titles, perhaps as early as 1815". Apparently Bowles' verses "delighted and inspired" Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Frontispiece and extra illustrated title page, and two inserted plates. Issued as the third volume in the Helping Hand Series. Some wear to spine ends, clear tape repair to inner front hinge, and glue repairs to both inner hinges, a clean very good copy in general. The frontispiece and two inserted plates are by Thomas Nast; one is of Neptune, God of the Sea, another of a monkey swinging a cat by its tail! The frontispiece depicts the discovery of a stowaway, a young black girl who calls herself Wooly Butts. Ads on the final page are for Oliver Optic's Magazine, and for The Army and Navy Stories by Oliver Optic. This book was also issued in the Mayflower Series for Girls.

[with] Sur La Terre Comme au Ciel. Illustrations en Couleurs de Jeanne Hebbelynch. Bruges: Desclee de Brouwer, (1933). First edition. Front fly leaf missing, names in pen on the half-title leaf, some spotting and foxing, a very good copy. A pair, both the English and French editions of this handsome illustrated book. An uncommon juvenile work; Worldcat gives an incomplete description, and cites no library holdings.
