Frontispiece & 3 inserted plates by Frank Schoonover. One leaf of ads at rear. Some small bumps and mild soiling of cloth, writing on front end paper, some careful repair to inner front hinge; a bright, very good copy, quite attractive. A story of a balloon voyage to the North Pole. Voss was the author of a number of fantastic works; it was his tale that was adapted by Ambrose Bierce into The Monk and the Hangman's Daughter. Price:

In addition to the title story this collection contains two others: Lala and On Vulture Island. The latter story is supernatural, concerning restless ghosts that return for vengeance. Voss was the author of Der Mönch von Berchtesgaden, the English translation of which was adapted by Ambrose Bierce into his 1892 work THE MONK AND THE HANGMAN'S DAUGHTER. Price:
