Payn (James) The Eavesdropper. An Unparalleled Experience. NY: Munro, (1898). Original wrappers lacking; bound in the later wrappers of the Pratt Circulating Library, Denver, Colo. Wrappers dust soiled, paper browning, very good otherwise. In addition to the title story, which is a tale of invisibility gained through a secret formula, this book contains two other stories: "John Barrington Cowles," which is a tale of mesmerism and murder through mind-control; and "Elias B. Hopkins. The Parson of Jackman's Gulch," which is a criminous tale of robbery. The first edition w as published in London by Smith, Elder, 1888.
