The first page of text following the title has been folded over before the text block was stapled, but it is intact; a binder's error. Issued as No. 82 in Funk & Wagnalls' STANDARD LIBRARY series, Feb. 12, 1883. The text of lectures delivered by Haweis in 1881 and 1882, one is an essay on Mark Twain, other subjects are Bret Harte, Washington Irving, Oliver Wendell Holmes, James Russell Lowell, and Artemus Ward.
