Taylor (C. Bryson) In The Dwellings Of The Wilderness. With Decorations in Colour. NY: Henry Holt, 1904. First edition. Original light brown decorative cloth designed and lettered in green and white. Title page printed in red & black. Two small colour vignette illustrations as chapter headings. 184pp. plus 4pp. publishers ads at rear. Binding signed: BS (Bertha Stuart). A remainder issue exists, which was issued without the plates and with the binding designed and lettered in brown and red. A short novel of a mummified female vampire awakened from her Egyptian tomb. Title page printed in red & black. Two small colour vignette illustrations as chapter headings. 184pp. plus 4pp. publishers ads at rear. Binding signed: BS (Bertha Stuart). Light shelf wear, a couple of marks to back cover, white lettering and design mostly gone from spine, front cover in quite a fresh state. Prior owner's name has been written on the dedication leaf near the gutter, and erased leaving just the indentations. Evidence of a bookplate removal from the inner front cover, small yellow tape mark on front fly leaf. Otherwise, a clean very good copy, internally fresh and with only light foxing to the lower part of the first colour plate, not affecting the image. This is the first issue, which contains the two color plates, and the binding of which is lettered in white and designed in green. A remainder issue exists, which was issued without the plates and with the binding designed and lettered in brown and red. A short novel of a mummified female vampire awakened from her Egyptian tomb.
