In a manila envelope, postmarked 1971, sent by McClure to "Peter & Jack" at Serendipity Books, Berkeley. The poet has written his return address on the envelope, as well as instructions to the postman: "Do Not Fold Or Bend". Published for an SUA Poetry Reading. Laid in is a handwritten note from McClure to the booksellers, on both sides of a small sheet from a spiral notebook, signed "M".

Crease to lower corner, soft crease to other lower corner, a clean very good copy. At the bottom edge is printed: "From 'The Captain's Verses', copyright (c) 1972 by New Directions. This is a gift from Moe's for the New Year: 1979." There exists another issue of this broadside which has a different text at the bottom edge: "A gift poem in celebration of the New Year: from Eric, Jessica and Karen Cross." The poem was translated by Donald D. Walsh.
