A greeting card, once folded. Front panel illustration by Vinh An. Printed by Young-Brilliant for Unicorn Press 25 XII 68. Slight dust soiling. A translation from the French of Vo Van Ai "La Response du feu" by Teo Savory. This copy inscribed [possibly by Alan Brilliant]: "Julia, love, Teo and I will / be at Gleason's for one / week at Christmas. May / we see you?" Written beneath is Madeline Gleason's address in San Francisco.

[np/nd: The author, ca.1970?]. 8.5 x 11 inch sheets, ringbound in a black leatherette binder, lettered in gilt on the front. Printed on rectos only. Clean, near fine condition. Laid in is a retained copy of a 2-page letter to Stavis from an Alberta English Professor; it mentions Stavis's play THE MAN WHO NEVER DIED, and how Stavis had revised a scene in it based on the professor's critical remarks. The letter is from January, 1994. Stavis died in 2007, at 100 years of age. The play about Joe Hill was published and produced in the 1950s, and a revised edition was done in 1972 with an intro by Pete Seeger. This opera version was produced in Berlin, in German, in 1970, and subsequently rebroadcast on the BBC in 1979.

An owner's name and date are penned on the front end paper, otherwise a fine copy in a slightly chipped, very good pictorial dust jacket, splits along the folds internally repaired with tape. A nice looking copy. A novelization of this popular play, which was filmed three times. About an unorthodox doctor, a mystic from a Hungarian Gypsy camp, who succeeds in curing a woman when British surgeons have declared her condition hopeless.

NY: Jacobsen-Hodgkinsin, 1926. First edition. Pictorial wrappers. A photoplay edition, illustrated with stills on inserted plates, as well as some on the rear cover. Paper is very browned and brittle, a number of page corners are broken off, ownership signature on title page, very good otherwise. The film was produced by Joseph Schenck Productions, starring Norma Talmadge and Ronald Colman. The original story is from the 1920 novel by Andre Picard, later (1921) adapted for the stage by David Belasco and produced on Broadway. The film was remade in 1931, starring Mary Pickford.

West Branch: Cummington Press, 1966. Plain gray wrappers, printed title label on upper front cover. Some foxing of early and late leaves as usual, edges slightly bumped, but a fine copy. The colophon states that 125 copies were printed, but apparently only 100 were produced.
