Philadelphia: Curtis, 1939 - 1965.
99 issues of this children's magazine in original pictorial wrappers. A few issues have pencil marks, words written into puzzles, and moderate overall wear; condition is generally very good to fine. The magazines have a slightly musty smell, but not bad. Nine issues (Oct 1953 - June 1954) lack the center pages, which are on heavier stock and usually include cut-out dolls, games, and other special features; they are present in all the other issues. A couple of issues are in the original mailing envelopes. Also included is a form letter from the publisher, Curtis, sending payment for poems to a Canadian contributor in 1962. Contributors include Lois Lenski, Kurt Wiese, Ruth Plumly Thompson, and Ted Key. There is a story by Arna Bontemps and Langston Hughes, also one by Ted Hughes (his first children's story, July 1958). Issues are scattered through 1952, and fairly complete from 1953 through 1959, with more scattered issues from the 1960s. A complete list is available. When wrapped up these will weigh about 40 pounds, so postage costs are a consideration.
