An original 18th century engraving removed from an edition of Shakespeare's works. Size: 9 X 6 inches. Trimmed down to just larger than the image size; the artist and engravers names, and the captions beneath the image, are intact. Condition is very good, with minimal foxing. There are several spots on the back of the engraving, along the edges, where it was perhaps once pasted into an album. These do not show up save when the plate is illuminated from behind.The illustration is by Francis Hayman, engraved by Hubert-Francois Gravelot. Francis Hayman contributed 31 illustrations to the Sir Thomas Hanmer edition of Shakespeare published in 1744; a second edition containing the engravings appeared in 1771. This engraving is marked in the two corners beneath the image: "F. Hayman Inv. / H. Gravelot Sculp."
