The Devil And I., Allen (Linda Marguerite Sangree). [published anonymously].
18 Allen (Linda Marguerite Sangree). [published anonymously]. The Devil And I.
cat40a
NY: Dillingham, 1889. First edition. Later wrappers with printed paper labels, created by the binder John Ruyle. Stapled. One leaf of publishers ads at rear, for Dillingham/Carleton, dated 1889. Likely this is a copy of the paperbound issued which was lacking its wrappers. Large ink rubberstamps of Pratt's Circulating Library on the title page and early leaves, and on numerous pages throughout; paper browning, creases to title page, very good otherwise. Wright II: 84. The book was reissued by Dillingham c.1902 with the author's name affixed; this first edition was issued anonymously. Allen also wrote under the name 'Sangree', and WorldCat cites a copy of this book under that name... perhaps the Sangree by-line was used on the cover of the wraps issue, but we have not confirmed this. A weird novel involving hypnotism.
