The first is: "The Songs of Craig and Ben" including The Last Farewell to the Bens and A Song to His Hunting Gun by Duncan Ban MacIntyre. 12pp., printed wrappers, stapled. Imprint of The Outlook Tower, Castlehill, Edinburgh. Reprinted from "The Scots Magazine" January, 1950. Pencil inscription from Geddes to Bronson on upper cover, fine condition. [with] "Craig and Ben" -- Their Life And Song. A study of Response to Environment. 6pp. , one illustration. Plain wrappers, stapled. This is extracted from Geography Magazine, Vol. 37, No. 1, January, 1952; paginated from 32 - 36. Pencil inscription on front cover from Geddes to Bronson. Very good condition. Laid in is what looks like a trial or promotional leaf from the 1951 book "The Songs of Craig And Ben" published by Serif Books; it is the title page, with page 9 on the verso.

This booklet contains ads for music published by Hill & Co. including the scores for the Devil's Opera. This booklet contains the lyrics for the musical numbers in the play, and would have been sold in the theatre for use at the performance.

Pictorial wrappers, stapled. 9 x 12 inch format. 16pp. Some wear to spine and corners, but a very good copy of an extremely fragile and cheaply-produced book. Ownership signature and stamp on front cover. The cover features a picture of Ralph Maddison, billed as "The Premier Canadian Tenor", "The Singing Miner", and "Canada's Greatest Ballad Singer!". Maddison was from Springhill, Nova Scotia, and as a young man he worked in the mines there. He became a successful singer and toured in the vaudeville circuit for about 20 years, apparently being very popular in Western Canada. In the mid-30s he returned to Springhill and worked in the mines until his death in 1940. This book contains songs by a variety of writers, presumably ones which were performed by Maddison at the time.
