[496]pp. Full calf, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. Marbled end papers. Minor shelf wear, a bit of scuffing at the hinges, some foxing of preliminary leaves a fine copy otherwise. We have seen a reference to a similar copy with a signed limitation (675 copies); this copy is unsigned, and has no stated limitation. It is a large copy, with large margins. The owner's bookplate is expertly mounted on a leaf following the title. Title page printed in red & black. Frontispiece. A handsome copy of this important slang dictionary.

Cloth worn at spine ends, some repair to upper spine, rubbing to cloth, otherwise very good; internally clean and fresh. The imprint at the base of the spine reads: "TRUBNER & CO." The three sections have individual title pages which bear the imprint: "London: Trubner & Co. / Yokohama: Kelly & Walsh". The preface is dated 1886. This is the combined edition of three works which were published separately. Copies are also seen in blue cloth, and with a variant imprint of "Paul, Trench and Trubner". Cordier: Bibliotheca Japonica, page 640.

NY: American Tract Society, (1882). First edition. Burgundy boards, red cloth spine, front cover titled in black (in Chinese, and much smaller in English: "Dict. & Reader"). Moderate edge wear, some rubbing of boards, a couple of folded page corners, a very good copy. Two volumes bound together, the reader (144 pages) and the dictionary (134 pages), with individual title pages. Title pages titled in English and Chinese, and most of the text also in both languages. Many small illustrations in the text. "The Chinese portion is in the Canton dialect." Condit was active with the Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, and as a missionary to the Chinese. An uncommon book.

Really a bright and attractive copy of this slang dictionary.
