Boston & Portland: Isaiah Thomas, Jun. / Dedham: H. Mann & Co. Printers, 1816. Eighth Edition. 12mo. 228pp. Original paper-covered wooden boards, calf spine. Several illustrations in the text. Boards are worn with paper chipped away at fore-edges, a sizeable piece is broken out of the center of the rear board; foxing and discoloration of leaves typical of American books of this period; very good otherwise. Upper corner torn from one leaf (109/110), affecting the running headline. An ownership inscription in the front is that of Abraham Winslow, Bought January 1st 1823.

Some soiling of vellum, a clean very good copy generally. In Latin. Originally published c.1600 (the Second Edition was dated 1602), this is a dictionary & thesaurus of poetic language, used for centuries as a textbook in the study of classical literature in Latin.

An almanac, with the tables printed in black & red. Lower page corners folded, some moderate edge wear, a bit of foxing, but generally very good. Printed on a good quality paper.

Boston: Jenks, Hickling & Swan, 1853. Number Sixty-Two. 48 pages [plus 12 leaves inserted]. Sewn into contemporary dark marbled wrappers, this copy interleaved with 12 leaves of ruled blue paper, one for each month. Several of the inserted leaves contain extensive records of expenses for produce sold, workers paid, and the like. One mentions a neighbor (?) hanging himself. Lower corner has old dampstains, scattered foxing, wear to the spine, very good in general. Illustrated title and small vignette illustrations for the months. Small embossed stamp on upper title leaf of Groom Company, Stationers, Boston.

First edition under this title; originally published in 1797 as: The Cannibals' progress... This copy is of the variant having 'Hatcherd' for 'Hatchard' in the imprint. A popular work which saw numerous edition, including several in the USA. A truly bloody account of the French invasion of Germany, replete with descriptions of all manner of atrocities.

An autograph letter from Goldsborough Banyer to Mathew Vischer, a Counsellor at Law in Albany, NY. Dated New York, 9th December 1785. 1 & 1/4 pages, closely written in black pen, with Banyar's flowery signature at the end. Concerning the claim to some land in New York State which was being made by a family in London. Twice folded, a piece torn away where the wax seal (still present) was attached (not affecting text). A bit of edge wear, but condition is very good, and entirely legible. Banyar was born in London, and first came to American in the 1730. He was appointed Deputy Auditor-General of New York in 1746, later he was Secretary of State under the colonial government. In his old age he moved to Albany, and died there in 1815 at the age of 91. His son, Goldsbrow Jr., was married to Maria Jay, the daughter of John Jay. His son died in 1806, but his daughter-in-law remained in Albany to care for Banyar until his death.

London: Printed by J. Poulter, 1833. First edition. [32] pp. Disbound, very good condition. Tipped to the title leaf is an autograph letter from the author dated 4th March, 1833, to Thomas G.B. Estcourt, MP; on a second sheet Beamish has written details of his salary with several calculations. In this book Beamish protests his forced retirement from the Navy Pay Office, and makes a plea for reinstatement.

Staples rusting, some figures in pencil on back cover, otherwise a nice copy. An early work on the electrical method of dehydrating petroleum, this booklet is basically an ad for the Petroleum Rectifying Co. of California, whose ads and fact sheets appear at the rear. A very scarce book. Not in WorldCat, and we cannot find another copy listed.

A diminutive booklet, measuring 3 x 2 inches.
